Online tutoring for Vancouver students.

Study Stone Learning is based in Kelowna, BC, and provides online tutoring for students throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. I don't travel to the coast, so there are no in-person or in-home sessions there — every Vancouver-area student is taught online.

What doesn't change is who teaches your student. I'm Justin, a certified British Columbia teacher with more than twenty years in BC classrooms, and I teach every session myself.

Subjects I tutor

These are the BC courses I have taught in the classroom, so they are the ones I take on. A Vancouver student follows the same provincial curriculum as a student anywhere else in British Columbia, which is what makes tutoring across the province straightforward.

Mathematics

Grades 8 to 12, including the Foundations, Workplace and Pre-Calculus pathways.

Science & Physics

Science 9 and 10, plus BC Physics 11 specifically — kinematics, forces, energy and waves.

See every course on the subjects page, or read more about high-school math tutoring.

How online sessions work

Sessions run 60 minutes, one-on-one. We work on a shared digital workspace, so we write on the same page and both see the reasoning as it happens rather than holding homework up to a camera.

All your student needs is a device and a reliable internet connection. The exact setup depends on what they already use — a Chromebook, a school laptop with Teams installed, or a home computer all work. We settle that after we've agreed to meet; it is never something you need to work out before booking.

Why online suits Lower Mainland families

  • No commute, on either sideA session slots into the evening without anyone crossing a bridge or sitting in traffic first.
  • Easier to find a time that worksWith no travel to schedule around, evenings and weekends open up considerably.
  • Written work we can both seeShared drawing tools, so the working is visible as it happens rather than described afterwards.
  • The same tutor every weekI keep the notes and the context between sessions. There is no rotating roster.
  • From home, at the kitchen tableYounger students especially do better with their own books and notes already in front of them.

Who I work with in the Lower Mainland

Because sessions are online, where your student lives makes no practical difference. Families across Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, Coquitlam, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, New Westminster, Delta and Langley — and anywhere else in the region — can work with me on the same terms.

To be plain about what that means: I do not travel to the Lower Mainland, and there is no in-home option there. In-person tutoring is available in the Kelowna area only.

Pricing

$60 for a 60-minute one-on-one session — the same price everywhere in British Columbia, with no travel surcharge and no packages to buy up front. Online sessions are paid by card once the session is confirmed.

Before any of that, the first 15-minute consultation is free. Full detail is on the pricing page.

Is this a fit for your student?

Online tutoring tends to work well for a student who can sit down at a device without much supervision and stay with a problem for an hour. It suits students catching up on gaps, keeping pace with a demanding course, or preparing for a provincial exam.

If you aren't sure, that is what the free consultation is for — a short conversation about what your student needs, with no obligation and nothing to pay. If I'm not the right fit, I'll say so.
